Tour Itinerary
Day 1
After arriving in Battambang and checking in to your hotel. We’ll go to visit Phnom Sampov (Sampov Mountain). It’s located around 12km from Battambang town. This limestone mountain has many shrines which we can visit before we reach the what is known as the “Killing Caves”. These caves got their name from the Khmer Rouge era as it was used to dump dead bodies killed by the Pol Pot soldiers.
We will also see Banan temple, which is one of the most popular temples in Battambang. There is a 350 steps to get to the top, but once you get there, you’ll be rewarded with some stunning views of the flat padding fields surrounding the area.
At the end of the day, we will drop you back to your hotel. We can arrange an evening sightseeing tour and recommend a nice restaurant for you, or we can leave you to have some free time.
Day 2
Moreover, we will also visit a local museum to tell you about the long and sometimes tragic past of Battambang city. Battambang used to be a part of Thailand after it was annexed from the Angkor Empire. It was only after the French colonized Cambodia that it was finally returned to the Kingdom of Cambodia. After the French occupation, Battambang was at the center of the Khmer Rouge stronghold and played a huge part in the civil war came in the years that followed.
After the museum, we are off for some excitement on the Bamboo train where you can hurtle along the tracks at a leisurely pace and see the stunning countryside up close.
We will then start the three hour drive back to Siem Reap.
