Tour Itinerary

Day 1
On the first day, we will start with Ta Prohm temple. Ta Prohm is also known as the Tomb Raider Temple as part of the famous Lara Croft movie was filmed on location here. This is a stunning and unique temple which has mostly been left in it’s original state. The jungle is literally growing through the center of the temple and this gives it a unique feeling among the temples at Angkor Wat.

We will then go to see Ta Nei temple which was build late in the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII and it’s located near the east corner of East Baray, an ancient water reservoir. This temple was dedicated to Buddha and is a very popular temple with visitors. Finally, in the morning, we will see the ancient city of Angkor Thom. There are many things in the temple that we will see including Bayon, Terrace of the Elephants and more.

After lunch, we will then spend the afternoon at Angkor Wat temple. This huge temple takes some time to get around and explore, and we will dedicate most of the afternoon to explore all the nooks and crannies of this world famous temple.

Day 2
We will start the second day with the short drive out to Banteay Srei temple. Construction on this temple started in AD 967 and it’s one of the smallest temples in the area. However, it’s also one of the most beautiful temples and is considered to be the “Jewel of Khmer Art”. Known in English as the “Citadel of Women”, the carvings are considered to be too fine to have been carved by men.

We will also go to see the Butterfly Garden and a Sugar Palm village in the local area. The butterfly farm hosts a huge number of butterfly species which are native to Southeast Asia and you can also learn about sugar palm production in a local village.

We will finish the morning with a visit to Banteay Samre which was built in a similar style and around the same time as Angkor Wat. The carvings are still in excellent condition and it’s a nice road trip through small villages to reach the temple.

After lunch, we will go to see Preah Khan, another 12th century temple built by the prolific King Jayavarman VII. It’s located just outside Angkor Thom and like other temples in the ares, such as Ta Prohm, it has been left largely unrestored.

Next is Neak Pean which is yet another temple built during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. It’s believed that Neak Pean represents a mythical lake in the Himalayas and the name Neak Pean derives from the Sanskrit word “Naga”.

We will end the tour with by visiting Ta Som and Pre Rup. Ta Som is another creation of King Jayavarman VII built during the 12th century, but Pre Rup was built much earlier in the 10th century as the state temple for King Rajendravarman.

Day 3
On the final day of the tour we will go to see the Roluos group which consists of three temples known as Preah Ko, Bakong and Lolei. All three temples are some of the earliest examples of Khmer architecture and predate Angkor Wat by a few hundred years. Roluos was home to the capital city of the early Khmer Empire before it was moved to Angkor Thom.

We will also stop at a local village so that you can see the local way of life before stopping for lunch.
